MILAN — Italian team AC Milan are targeting Renato Sanches as an alternative to the departure of Franck Kessie in the January 2022 transfer window.

Kessie’s contract expires in June 2022 and the two sides have so far failed to find an agreement. The Rossoneri have applied for a contract extension with a salary of 6 million euros per year.

However, the agent demanded the management of Milan to increase their wage offer to Kessie by no less than 9 million euros per year.

Milan is unlikely to grant this request and they plan to release Kessie and look for alternative players to fill the midfield spot.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport quoted by Semper Milan , Tuesday (16/11), former teammate Mike Maignan at OSC Lille, Renato Sanches became the main target of the Rossoneri.

The Portugal international has a contract that expires in 2023 and wants a new challenge in his career with Lille who have slumped in the mid-table of French Ligue 1 after winning the title last season.

Sanches has indeed been a target for Milan in recent seasons. Technical director Paolo Maldini is a figure who idolizes the player. However, Milan will have competitors from two Italian teams namely Juventus and AS Roma.

On the other hand, Milan is considered to be able to take advantage of their good relationship with Lille, as has been done in the agreement of Maignan, Leao and Djalo.
